The issue was tracked upstream as "Specific table CSS style breaks `.is(':visible')`", see https://github.com/jquery/jquery/issues/3065. Also fixed: "Element which is not in page is still :visible in IE8", see https://github.com/jquery/jquery/issues/3043.
